BIOGRAPHY
Dutch cellist and singer Hadewych van Gent weaves voice and cello into a single, distinctive sound. An adventurous and versatile musician, she moves along the borders of traditional classical music and beyond, creating intimate and captivating performances that have reached audiences across Europe and South America.
She has appeared in both solo and chamber music settings at leading venues including Konzerthaus Berlin, Het Concertgebouw, Het Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ, Dutch National Opera, the Barbican Hall, Royal Albert Hall, and St Martin-in-the-Fields. She has collaborated with artists such as Janine Jansen, Menahem Pressler, Andreas Ottensamer, Max Richter, and Sheku Kanneh-Mason, but also with musicians from other genres including Laufey and Coldplay. Recent highlights include touring Brazil and the UK with guitarist Plínio Fernandes and violinist Braimah Kanneh-Mason, as well as a performance with Sheku Kanneh-Mason at his album release, where The Times praised her contribution as “an intoxicating invocation.”
Hadewych is passionate about expanding the repertoire for voice and cello, working closely with composers on new works. Her debut album VOICE (Linn Records), part of the Royal Academy of Music Bicentenary Series, explores the many “voices” that inspire her artistry. Upcoming projects include the premiere and recording of a new trio for guitar, cello, and voice by Rafael Marino Arcaro, written for her and guitarist Plínio Fernandes.
She was named a Bicentenary Scholar, granting her a full scholarship, of the Royal Academy of Music and in 2025 received a nomination for the Grachtenfestival Prize, recognizing her as one of the Netherlands’ most promising young musicians.
Hadewych performs on a Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume cello on generous loan from the Royal Academy of Music, and a bow by Andreas Grütter, sponsored by Stichting SEM.
